Chelsea’s Choice’ is an innovative Applied Theatre production that has proved highly effective in raising awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation amongst young people in the UK.
The drama production has been funded by the Drug and Alcohol Action Team and Community Safety Partnerships in East Cambs and Fenland and will be offered free to schools and colleges across East Cambs and Fenland this September.
Feedback from previous productions suggests that this is a powerful way of raising important issues around child sexual exploitation with young people.
The play lasts for 40 minutes and is followed by a 30 minute workshop, led by the actors and exploring the themes in the play which include
- Healthy relationships
- Internet safety
- Substance use
- Identifying risky situations
- Sexual exploitation
Follow up work with the pupils after the performance and 3 months down the line will help to identify how the production has changed behavior and will educate us about how we can improve the reporting of incidents that take place. Education on this topic at the right age may aid in giving children the ability to understand and identify signs of child sexual exploitation at an early stage.
